The history.

The legendary GT2 designation traces its origins back to its genesis in the 993 generation when Porsche developed a limited production homologation special in order to meet the requirements for GT2 Class racing. The GT2 race car proved to be a successful endeavor winning its class title at LeMans twice. Porsche used its renowned, air-cooled 3.6L M64/60 engine and added twin turbos to the setup which produced nearly 444 horsepower to the rear wheels for MY 1998. The 993 GT2 is easy to spot with its large rear wing, wide 3-piece Speedline wheels, and ultra wide plastic fenders. The end result was an out-of-this-world driving experience that reaffirmed Porsche’s ability to make a successful homologation special that performed on the street and the racetrack. The ultra collectible 993 GT2 was limited to just 57 road cars, making it one of the most desirable air-cooled Porsches ever.

The formula was simple, twin-turbos, rear-wheel drive, 6-speed manual transmission, limited driver's aids, and a ton of horsepower. In 2001, Porsche used the same formula and applied it to the now water-cooled 996 generation. The 996 GT2 was the fastest production Porsche in 2002. It was fitted with the Mezger designed 3.6L M96/70 engine (later MKII variants had the M96/70S engine) and featured many additional aerodynamic pieces that paid homage to the 993 GT2 including a larger rear spoiler and front air vents with lower bumper diffuser. They also came standard with no sunroof, rear seat delete, and carbon ceramic brakes. The 996 GT2 was special, but the uprated MKII 2004-2005 variants are unicorns. Only about 29 were produced, including 24 for 2004 and 5 for 2005. They came with GT3 Wheels and the M96/70S engine that bumped horsepower to a whopping 483 HP from the standard 456 HP.

THE CAR.

Chassis # WP0AB29984S696077

The opportunity on offer here is a 2004 Porsche GT2 MKII VIN # WP0AB29984S696077 finished in black over black showing just 29,691 Miles. It was ordered with a whole host of tasteful options including seat belts in guards red with deviated red stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and dash, carbon door sills, and the small aluminum look interior package to name a few. The original MSRP was just over $202,000 in 2004. It remained with its first owner in the Northeast until 2009 when it was sold to its second owner in New Jersey where it remained until its fourth, and current, owner purchased it in 2016 (Carfax incorrectly states 5 owners as it recorded owner registering car from one state to another state). During its time in New Jersey, it was regularly serviced and cared for by Powertech in Rockaway, NJ. As such, there are many service intervals recorded on the Carfax. It has remained in the same Porsche Collection since 2016 and has been driven on a few special occasions to prevent issues from sitting.

This is a rare opportunity to own a unicorn 996 GT2 with excellent options, driveable mileage, and no modifications coming from a long-term Porsche collector home. Included in the sale is its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, Window Sticker, manuals, and clean CARFAX.
