The history.

The iconic “V8” Aston Martin grand tourers have been a standout in the brand's lineup for decades, with models produced from 1969 all the way to 1989. The original “DBS V8” from 1969-1972 set the tone, before the model designation switched to simply “V8” from 1972 onward.

The Series 4 “Oscar India”arrived in 1978 with a handful of styling tweaks like a hood bulge, integrated spoiler, and more wood inside for a more premium feel. For the US, power dipped slightly to 245 hp, but the 0-60 time of 5.2 kept it one of the quickest cars of its era.

The Volante convertible versions proved even more popular than the coupe by 1981, despite only 192 being produced vs 352 coupes. Over the years, these V8 Astons have developed a devoted following among collectors and enthusiasts who love their elegant yet muscular look and glorious V8 sound. Many of the remaining examples have fallen victim to being neglected with numerous expensive issues lurking beneath the surface. Due to this reality it is important to find a properly-cared for or well-restored example.

THE CAR.

Chassis # V8COL15210

The 1980 Aston Martin V8 Volante presented here, featuring a factory 5-speed manual transmission, is a rare US-market Series 4 model. The car’s history does have some gaps, but the details we do have give it an impressive backstory. It was originally sold in Midland, Texas before being purchased by the producer of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom in California. The current owner bought it in Bellevue, Washington, back in 2005. At the time, the Volante was in original condition with around 37,000 miles. For the past 19 years, they’ve maintained it well at a shop in Reisterstown, Maryland.

In 2010-2011, the engine and drivetrain underwent a $30,000 rebuild and upgrade, including Euro-spec components. Then in 2019, the car received a full restoration in Italy -  a bare metal repaint in the original Jubilee Silver, new upholstery, top, and more.

With just over 61,500 miles, this freshly restored Volante is one of the only 192 ever made. The rebuilt powertrain and luxurious interior mean the next owner can fully enjoy the thrill of open-top V8 motoring just as Aston intended in the ‘80s. Along with the car, they’ll get the original toolkit, extra keys, and full service records.
